At MyaLink, our focus is not only on myasthenia, but also on rare myasthenic syndromes such as Lambert-Eaton-Myasthenic-Syndrome (LEMS). LEMS is a rare autoimmune neuromuscular disease that leads to muscle weakness and impairment of the autonomic nervous system. The quality of life of these patients is often severely impaired.
In our current study by Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the patient organization Deutsche Myasthenie Gesellschaft e.V., the quality of life of LEMS patients was examined in comparison to the general population and myasthenia gravis patients. The results are alarming: LEMS patients have significantly lower physical and mental health scores than the comparison groups. Women, people on low incomes and those with additional psychosocial stressors such as depression and anxiety are particularly affected.
These findings underscore the need for specialized care approaches such as those offered by MyaLink.
We are committed to ensuring that all patients, regardless of the rarity of their syndrome, receive the best possible support!
